The Upper Pontalba Building Restoration Corporation (UPBRC) is a “Public Benefit Corporation of the City of New Orleans” incorporated pursuant to Louisiana law. Under a Management agreement, the French Market Corporation manages, operates and staffs the UPBRC for a fixed fee, plus reimbursement of maintenance workers’ wages and benefits. Operation of the Upper Pontalba building is overseen by a seven-member Board.
The Upper Pontalba’s 14 commercial spaces and 50 apartment units are fully occupied and there is a waiting list for the building’s prized apartments. The Upper Pontalba is self-sustaining and profitable. By ordinance, its profits must be set aside for projects benefitting the Vieux Carre.
